BIO_ImageWendy Murray is a musical chameleon with a deep connection to jazz … like Sting who is her inspiration.

Wendy’s influences are eclectic. She has the ability to adapt her voice to suit the many and varied styles of the songs she loves. Wendy has a deep emotional and intuitive connection with each song. Whether sultry blues, smooth latin jazz, quirky cabaret show tunes or beautiful folk and pop melodies Wendy presents her elegant style with warmth and humour. Wendy is also a vocal coach, songwriter, dancer, guitarist, band manager, beekeeper, gardener/farmer along permaculture principals, yoga practitioner, meditator and nature lover. Wendy loves music and is deeply grateful for the opportunity to practice her art.

Wendy Murray graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in 2000 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz/Contemporary Voice and Vocal Pedagogy. In 2001 she undertook a trip to Cuba. Under composer, bandleader, bassist Jose Joaquin Alayo Mulen in Santiago de Cuba Wendy studied the wonderful traditional music, songs, dance, Spanish language and Cuban culture. Wendy performed and recorded in Santiago de Cuba with the band Okan (heart in the Yoruba language). In Cuba she learned to speak Spanish and this experience informs her work as lead singer and driving force behind Brisbane’s 7 piece Latin Jazz Orchestra, Hot Mambo

Wendy has performed both nationally and internationally on the stages of festivals and venues large and small – in Vanuatu, Cuba, Italy, France, Germany, Ireland, Wales and London. Wendy is currently teaching at her Armstrong Creek studio and holding vocal workshops both in Australia and overseas.

Ever broadening her horizons, she is currently studying classical piano and Shakuhachi (Japanese end blown bamboo flute) and the traditional Honkyoku Japanese music.

Wendy continues to travel overseas to participate in professional vocal masterclasses and summer schools and conferences to ensure her skills and techniques remain up-to-the-minute.
